A Fact of Universal Interest

But the seventh day is the sabbath of the LORD thy God: 

Exodus 20:10

"The Sabbath recalls a fact of universal interest, the creation of the world, and is based on a process in the nature of God, who in some ineffable way 'rested on the seventh day.' 

The ideas connected with the Sabbath in the fourth commandment are thus of the most permanent and universal meaning. 

The institution, in the light of the reasons assigned,

--is as wide as the creation 

--and as eternal as the Creator."
